Pre-Release

Before Amity Arena began rolling on October 22nd, 2018 there existed multiple states of development where the game could be considered drastically different than how it is now. This page is devoted to keeping track of the bits of information related to these states of development.
  • February 2018, it was released to the press that NHN Entertainment was teaming with Rooster Teeth
  • Before July 2018, there existed the official Alpha build of the game. This stage was only available to developers, and therefore, not much is known about this game state.
  • June 2018, it was announced that the Closed Beta Test would be opening sign-ups for interested players.
  • July 2018, selected players were invited to the Amity Arena Discord and given access to the game. Servers were only in certain parts of the day, the test itself lasting three days.

Skill Reworks

Several different units had gone through many different iterations. Here is a list of what we have found!
  • Scythe Ruby has Dash AOE as an active skill and a version where it was a passive but didn’t try to dash while under attack.
  • Biker Yang’s initial passive was a dash (like current Ren) but dealt a % of her missing health as damage.
  • Shadow Blake has had multiple skill revisions.
   1. Teleported, did damage once then teleported back.
   2. Three clones, one was selected at random, all with Taunt
– Stone: Larger Taunt Radius
– Ice: Any who attacks it freezes as they attack it
– Fire: When Clone HP runs out it explodes.
  • Epic Ren: Stealthed all allies in an Emerald AOE sized area.
  • Rare Ren’s initial dash attack did 25% of target’s max health as damage and stunned them.
  • Pomegrenade’s skill is Pyrrha’s skill from early development.
  • Epic Emerald: Active ability, near global range, Mercury size AOE, Target an area and wait 3 seconds, All enemies in that area at the end of 3 seconds become allies.
  • Dew Gayl’s skill was given to Carmine.
  • Mercury’s skill used to be like Penny. (smaller area, non-global, shorter duration but higher DPS and total damage)
  • May used to have a global range, single shot skill.
  • Neo’s original skill:
   1. Pick direction
   2. Move in that direction, blocking all incoming damage.
   3. Deal all damage received while blocking to the first enemy encountered

Alpha

Developer Trivia

"Adam was the first Legendary that we created way back in Alpha and he used to blinkstrike as a passive and his active was an ability that shielded him and he would shoot out a sword wave that was proportional to the damage his shield absorbed in the targeted direction. He was SO overpowered that we didn't put him back in the game until we redesigned him which was nearly a year later.

Also we didn't know if we wanted Legendaries in the first place.

Nora used to knock characters up into the player's screen kind of like Smash Brothers, but we saw that it was hard to tell where the units were flying to, so we changed her to how she is now.

We used to have Team bonuses for RWBY JNPR etc before like many players want. However we removed it because with a growing cast, we probably couldn't keep up with all the different groupings as well as the problem of having another meta to balance regarding deck composition. Furthermore more confusion for new players and the de-valuing of cards that do not have full teams."

Beta

  • Grimm units were colored based off color of the team that was playing them! (A feature that also existed on release for a while.)
  • Many units (yatsu, sun, sblake) did not have a voice line!
